What happened

The Nuevo Laredo-Monterrey highway is slow today. Road work, detours and a crash backed up traffic on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026. El Mañana de Nuevo Laredo reported it at 10:11 a.m.

The main trouble spot is the Cuesta de Mamulique. That is the long hill on the toll road in Nuevo León. Crews are rebuilding the fast lane there. Because of that, traffic moves in fewer lanes at different times of the day. The paper gave no end date for the work.

The report also named kilometer 51, going from Monterrey toward Nuevo Laredo. And there was a crash near kilometer 58, close to La Cuesta, Nuevo León. Part of the road was closed while it was cleared.

Video showed lines of vehicles several kilometers long. The Guardia Nacional highway unit (Mexico's federal highway police) posted updates on its official X account.

What it means for owner-operators

This is the main road for loads between Monterrey and the Laredo bridges. If you are heading north, a slow hill can eat hours of your clock. That can push your crossing time, your delivery window and your hours of service.

The bridges themselves looked normal this morning. At 10:00 a.m. Central, CBP showed about 20 minutes for regular commercial lanes at the World Trade Bridge, with 12 of 19 lanes open. FAST lanes showed about 15 minutes. The Colombia Solidarity Bridge showed about 5 minutes.

So the delay today is on the road to the border, not at the booth. Plan for the highway, not just the bridge.

What to do next

  • Check the Guardia Nacional updates before you climb Mamulique.
  • Leave extra time and tell your dispatcher or broker early if you will be late.
  • Check live bridge times at bwt.cbp.gov before you reach Nuevo Laredo.
  • Keep your papers ready so you do not lose more time at the booth.
  • Keep your own file current. Your USDOT number and authority must be in order to cross and get paid. Our filing guide for truckers walks you through each step.

We will share it if there is news on when the Mamulique work ends.
